What Causes That Horrible Smell?

What’s that smell?

While funk is great to be around when it’s coming from a bass guitar, it’s not quite as fun as an aromatic experience. After all, nobody wants their home to smell like a high school locker room.

Unfortunately, some smells stay around longer than others, burrowing deep into fabrics to build a headquarters for stench. At Gonzo, we’re here to help you identify and eliminate the funk. Here’s how to deal with some stubborn odors commonly found in homes:

MILDEW & MOLD

Is there a difference between mildew and mold? Mildew is a generic term for mold growth and refers to certain kinds of mold or fungi.

What does mold or mildew smell like? Pungent and earth. Musty and sour. Mold can smell like wet socks or rotting wood.

What causes the smell? When mold starts to grow and spread, it releases gasses called microbial volatile organic compounds (MVOCs). The pungent, musty smell is the result of chemical compounds via mold growth.

How to locate the smell? Sometimes it’s not easy to find the source of the smell. For a mold or mildew scent, look for any water leaking into your home. You can search for water discoloration or water damage, which will often lead to the root of the problem.

How to get rid of mold and mildew? At Gonzo, we hate the smell of mold, so we developed our Disinfectant Deodorizer & Cleaner Spray to kill the smell and it keep it from coming back.

Simply apply Gonzo to the surface with a sponge, brush, cloth or spray from 6-8 inches away. Keep the surface saturated for three minutes. Rinse hard, non-porous food contact surfaces with water after applying this product and watch it kill 99.9% of bacteria and germs within minutes. Please just make sure to clear food products and packaging materials from the area before applying Gonzo. Repeat these steps every seven days to kill mold and replace that stubborn mildew odor with a lavender or citrus scent that lasts for days.

Can black mold cause harm? It’s recommended you steer clear of black mold until it’s removed. Black mold can trigger immediate health issues and lead to long-term problems.

URINE

Pet vs. human urine? Cat and dog urine contains water, bacteria, ammonia, uric acid and dog hormones. It’s very similar to human urine, but a pet accident in your home can have more of a potent smell than human urine.

What causes urine to smell? Urine carries the pungent smell of ammonia, which can also smell like sweat. Ammonia is found naturally in plants, animals and humans. Some people find that ammonia smells fishy.

How to locate the smell? We don’t blame you if you don’t want to press your nose up against fabric that might contain a potty accident. If you can’t quite locate it, you can find dried urine on carpets or furniture with a black light.

How to get rid of urine smell? At Gonzo, we know even the best pets make mistakes — or maybe it’s your child or college roommate. That’s why our Disinfectant Deodorizer & Cleaner Spray eliminates the smell of urine through sanitation. The spray is a one-step sanitizer on hard, non-porous surfaces. Simply apply Gonzo to the surface with a sponge, brush, cloth or spray from 6-8 inches away. Keep the surface saturated for three minutes and wipe away those smelly toxins.

Is disinfectant & cleaner harmful for my pet? Gonzo Disinfectant is safe for every non-aquatic USDA classified pet.
